Yes We Breed For Looks !

There are so many who post on the net bashing breeders of the Neapolitan Mastiff, for breeding for looks. I am very proud to say that YES I do breed for looks.! BUT I also breed for other attributes as well..........

One of my pet peeves is "breeders" who try and pawn off their dogs as being far superior just because they have less wrinkle, less bone and less mass. These statements are very untrue as health problems do not only occur in certain "type's" You will do better to look at the pedigree of the dog, or better yet visit the kennel in person and see what health problems are apparent in their breeding stock

For those who do not like the looks of a CORRECT Mastino................

Get a Cane Corso

Yes We Breed For Temperament !

Sound Minded - Calm - Watchful- Alert and Attentive- Fearless - Committed To The Owner

These are the attributes I find must be  in the Neapolitan Mastiff as a breed. The loyalty and love they show to their family are phenomenal, they live to be with you and its a characteristic trait I find to be out standing .

The Mastino as a guardian cannot be beaten due to the strong bond it forms with its family, I myself do not feel as though a dog has to bite to protect its master and home, but if pushed the breed can become very protective and with proper training and socialization becomes a very effective personal guardian while remaining under control and reliable around people.

Yes We Breed For Function !

All the dogs used in our breeding program are sound in body. I refuse to sacrifice function for beauty and vice versa, I strive to breed a well balanced, beautiful , sound, functional dog.

My dogs are not fragile and sickly, I feel as though this is due to my selection of bloodlines, excellent nutrition, proper exercise and good training. They enjoy a variety of activities with us from trailing us on horseback, hiking the beautiful trails available to us and some even enjoy swimming while we are out fishing. We are active in many outdoor activities from boating to riding the sand dunes and most commonly you will find at least one of our mastini with us.

They are also excellent guardians of our property. We store our company equipment at our home and I never worry about a break in and something being stolen. One of the breeds attributes is they are always alert and aware of their surroundings, even while relaxing on the deck, they are more comparable to sentries guarding their domain. I do not encourage biting in any of my dogs, they will sound the alert, go and investigate and then wait for my decision, if I am relaxed they are accepting of the situation, if we are not home they will not let the person enter the property and I have yet found anyone who wanted to push the issue.

As a guardian breed in this day and age I do not find aggression in my dogs something I strive for. There is a difference between a dog who is showing guardian tendencies and traits and one who is showing true aggression. I have no tolerance for an aggressive animal at my home. I feel very confidant that with proper training and plenty of socialization with a Mastino you can have a accepting dog while at the same time having a dog who has the abilities to protect you.

Disclaimer

If you are considering the breed for sch or sport work please reconsider it as a choice for your activity. With 15 years experience in the breed, I can honestly say they are not made for this type of work, not because they Cant do it, there are a few who have excelled in this area, I as a breeder feel that other more traditionally used breeds are better suited and people will be happier with one of them.

I personally have chosen not to train for this type of work, although I do enjoy the obedience portion of things and have a couple whom I am working with in this area, maybe to compete later on.  I just feel as though there are better choices of breeds if you wish to compete with your dog in this area.

My motto is..
You wouldn't bring a Clydesdale to the Kentucky Derby and expect to win !
There are far better choices if you wish to work your dog, why buy a breed that is not made for the sport your asking it to do.
